Compensation

The starting wage for this position is $17.50/hour, rising to $19.00/hour once trained & certified as a boat captain. 

What will be your daily pursuit?

Provide animated, interactive and personalized interpretation of the local history, wildlife, vegetation and geology related to Lake Minnewanka and Banff National Park.

What will you do in this job?

Receive Paid training to qualify as a Licenced Boat Captain and Tour Guide!

  • Sustain a safe environment in all areas controlled by Minnewanka Lake 
  • Participate in the global effort to keep all areas of Minnewanka clean and wildlife safe 
  • Be prepared for a fast-paced work environment with changing conditions 
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and good communication skills 
  • Ensure that a high level of customer service is given to each guest 
  • Improve guests experience by offering high-standard interpretation on board
  • Constantly improve your guiding material: go on hikes & explore
  • Safely operate tour boats, in accordance with Transport Canada regulations Master Limited <60 Ton (all training provided and paid for)
  • Maintain trip and mechanical logs, report boat performance issues
  • NOTE: Transport Canada regulations state that In Canada only Canadian or Permanent resident of Canada can work on Canadian vessels. TC form #82-0701

  • Mechanically inclined
  • Second language an asset 
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), support and course reimbursement provided

What will your work environment be like?

This fun, seasonal position runs from May to October, 2023.

  • Independent. You’ll spend your days in and around national parks. 
  • Remote. Our home is filled with trees, lakes and blue-bird skies; rather than buildings, freeways and smog. Connect with friends around a bonfire instead of through WiFi 
  • Busy. You need to be prepared for a physical working environment with walking, stair climbing, bending, reaching, lifting (up to 50 pounds with assistance) required
